Ted Hatfield Support News
This morning at approximately 9:45 A.M. CST 06/18/2009, we experienced a denial of service attack against one of our customers. This caused an intermittent loss of connectivity for some customers, dialup service in the Marble Falls area, and incoming VOIP Service.
The issue has been resolved and we are actively monitoring the network involved in case further action is needed.

CPU 1 on the server hosting personal home pages and this blog had a hardware failure resulting in the need for migration to new hardware. After testing the integrity of the operating system we brought the prismnet/io/gateway websites, and personal websites back online.

We will be doing a physical move of some systems and some of our users will experience a brief outage lasting no more than 30 minutes. This will include shell services, outgoing email, and any new incoming email will be delayed during this period.

The issues has been resolved. We worked with our upstream nntp provider to double the number of concurrent connections for all of our shell servers.
tempest.prismnet.com, fnord.io.com, and eris.io.com.
############################################################
We have been experiencing nntp issues from fnord.io.com. Users have been experiencing errors similar to the following.
nnrp3.twtelecom.net: Your host connection limit reached - news@twtelecom.net
We have a ticket open with our news provider so they can resolve this issue for us.
Updates will be posted when the issue is resolved.

Additional checks and spam rules have been added to validate email on our incoming email servers. As always changes like this are to improve accuracy with our spam detection but not at the cost if false positives (Email being marked as spam that should not be). We will be monitoring the effectiveness of these tests, as well as the system performance on our filtering systems to ensure timely delivery.
